
After almost 30 years being the face of the renowned brand, Donatella leaves her royal seat as Versace’s creative director, marking the end of a legendary era for the fashion house.
Versace recently released a statement announcing that Donatella is set to abandon her post as creative director of Versace, assuming the role of chief ambassador of the Fashion House. Thus, she is stepping away from her celebrated designer duties.
Besides, the iconic fashionista expressed her excitement to see Versace through new eyes, leaving a warm welcome to the man that will assume her former position, Dario Vitale, former Miu Miu design director.
Donatella’s journey in Versace
For years, Donatella has been the mastermind behind Versace’s legendary story, shaping its bold and glamorous legacy.
Although the brand was founded by the late Gianni Versace in 1978, it was after her brother’s tragic death that the future chief ambassador took over as the head of fashion design.
Iconic designs
While designing for her family’s iconic brand, Donatella created some of fashion’s unforgettable moments. One of the most notable was the daring green silk chiffon gown Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammys — a dress so famous it inspired the creation of Google Images.
Additionally, in the last 27 years, she constantly proved her talent and vision. The Medusa logo and Italian prints became an iconic part of her creations, making Versace a giant of the luxury brands and of pop culture.
Under her wing, the brand presented unforgettable runway shows, bringing together supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford and brought to life iconic designs used by the starts in various red carpets.

Dario Vitale as the new creative director
After addressing her brother, saying she feels honored to be able to carry his legacy, Donatella announced that Dario Vitale will assume her position as the new creative director of Versace.
Moreover, Dario is Miu Miu’s former image director. He is expected to bring new energy to the brand and has already shown very grateful for the opportunity, claiming it to be a privilege and understanding the challenge he is assuming.
