Viktor & Rolf is a fashion house based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The company was founded in 1993 by two geniuses: Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren. They met while studying at the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design in the Netherlands. After studying together, they started their professional career by creating their own brand and in 1993 they won a talent contest at the Festival International de Mode et Phorographie in Hyères, and the brand moved to Paris in the same year. Their first haute couture fashion show was held in 1999, although it can be considered more of a performance, as there was only one model on a pedestal, which was spinning slowly, this model was superimposed on a design on another. The collection was called ”The Russian Doll”. In 2000 and 2006 they began to design clothes for the H&M chain.
An interesting aside is that in 2011 they released their book entitled Fairy Tale, written and illustrated by themselves. The world of Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren is characterized by being surreal, provocative, conceptual and of great beauty. And it is that world that is the protagonist of the book Fairy Tales, consisting of twelve stories written and illustrated by the designers.
This brand aspires to create spectacular beauty and unexpected elegance through an unconventional approach to fashion. For more than twenty years, Viktor&Rolf’s creations have evoked a provocative spirit with surreal contrasts at Paris Fashion Week, since its first Haute Couture collection in spring/summer 1998.
The spring/summer 2023 collection is an invitation to dramatic ball gowns trimmed with delicate floral embellishments of Abundance Fantaisie silk organza, chic mini-dresses that exude lushness through refined brocades and sculptural yet clean a-line gowns.
Drawing inspiration from luxurious fabrics, the collection is enriched with intricate brocades and detailed jacquard weaves that weave throughout the designs. Fitted bodices create sculptural silhouettes that are refined with brocade embroidery to evoke a sense of regal grandeur.
